Alaska is Teasing Us

Mountains and trees

After living in Alaska for almost a decade, my wife and I were ready for another adventure. To begin that adventure, we had to make our way out of Alaska, through Canada and down to the lower 48.

However, Alaska was not making it easy to leave. It displayed its beauty in full, and it was seriously making us question our decision to leave.

The first leg of our journey took us from Anchorage to Glennallen. It was supposed to be a short 3 hour drive. It took us a bit longer. As noob drivers learning to pilot a 32 foot class C RV on the Alaska Highway, we went a bit slower as we tested our driving abilities on some very winding roads.

I'm not going to lie. There were a lot of buttpucker moments as we wound our way up and down hills where there was nothing to the right of us but the tips of tree tops and steep cliffs. By the end of the trip though, our confidence had definitely grown. Despite the harrowing moments that made us question the sanity of what we were doing, it was a good first day on the road.

We camped for the night at the Ranch House Lodge. It was not where we intended to stay but after seeing the creek as we drove by, we decided to stop. We were able park right on the creek for the night and the hosts were super friendly and helpful.

We highly recommend that if you are driving through Alaska and looking for a place to stay in Glennallen, you consider spending a night or two at the Ranch House Lodge.

They are Queer friendly as well.
